Even A Blind Woman Can See Wrong

There is currently a bill that was introduced to congress in 2019 and reintroduced 2022 called the Martha Wright-Reed Just and Reasonable Communication Act. The bill was introduced by Senator Tammy Duckworth to assist with reducing rates for telephone and other communication services for inmates of incarceration and their families.

The bill was inspired by Martha Wright-Reed who was an advocate for changing the telephone jail and prison industry’s predatory fee structure. Her fight began after having to choose between paying for her medication and speaking with her grandson during his incarceration. Unfortunately Mrs. Wright-Reed passed away in 2015, but the fight to end these predatory practices still remains. Change requires action.

Contact your state Senators and State Representatives and ask them to co-sponsor this bill. Families should not have to choose between the essentials for living and making a call to keep in-touch with their loved ones. You can learn more about the bill and find out who your State Senator and Representative is at GovTrack.us
